Success Criteria

What it must be able to do?
It must be able to act as a fully functional website, that has the ability to inform students in Shatin College about the Student Council's cabinet, current projects and affairs in a presentable manner. In contrast to the old template, the new one will be more visually based, containing as little words as possible in order to remain appealing. The website must have a functional contact system that allows students to contact the council easily if they have issues they wish to address. In addition to that, the Student Council should be able to easily access and modify using a user-friendly piece of software.

Elements that make it specific to the target audience?

Bearing in mind that the majority of viewers will be students from Sha Tin College, I will have to make sure the website is remains appealing to teenagers ranging from 10 - 16 years old. Project Proposal

Needs
The Student Council needs a website to reach out the student body and also be more transparent. Unlike the previous website, the Student Council needs a website that can be easily maintained (the previous one was too much of a hassle to configure, edit, modify and post -> very inefficient). It should be easy to add and revise both text, photos and additional pages if necessary.

Solutions

Image result for solutionsI will provide the Student Council with a innovative, creative web design that is easy to navigate and provides related information to current subscribers. Currently, the student is not very successful in connecting with students at Shatin College. The design will not only allow students to engage with the student council, it will also help improve it's current image and effectively depict the Student Council as a professional, reliable student-led organization. The new design will fully integrate the current logo and color palette so that it will remain distinct and familiar to the majority, and will introduce complimentary colors that will benefit the overall look of the website.

Content Management System:

Image result for cmsIn regards to the template I will create, there will be a simple Content Mangament System (CMS) that will allow the client to easily make changes to the website without requiring specialized equipment or software to do so. I plan on connect Google Slides to the template (through mySQL and PHP) since software made by Google is easy to access and user-friendly.

Website Organization:
The new design will have 5 main pages:
  1. Home Page
  2. Introduction to the Team
  3. Recent Projects
  4. Meet the Team
  5. Weekly Minutes
  6. FAQ / Contact Us
These pages will be set as the default pages of the template. Content can be added using the CMS, however, the feature to add pages will most likely not be implemented as it may clash with other parts of the code.

Working along the Student Council, I will provide the committee a simple wireframe of the preliminary design of the website. The design will provide a basic look of the different parts of the website (as listed above), and will be susceptible to all kinds of modifications. If any other features are wanted, the student council can contact me through Gmail or other types of social media.
Project Post-Completion
By the time this project will be completed, I will have added the CMS into the template. A brief training session will be held during one of the Student Council weekly meetings where I will run through the basics of the website. As this will be at the very end of the project, any of the client's requests to modify the CMS, unless it is a small request (change in font or size), will unlikely be implemented as it may lead to major technical issues.

Finding a Client

Who is your client
The Student Council from our school, Sha Tin College

What do they do?
The student council is an organization which allows student's to voice their opinion regarding issues which they believe can improve Sha Tin College as a whole. The student council takes part of most of the school affairs, and solve issues that improve school life as a whole. In the past, they have been responsible for making:
  • Student cards
  • Our school's homepage
  • Wi-Fi improvements
  • Online suggestion box.
What is the problem they are encountering
Throughout the previous years, the student council's website has become out-of-date and lacking, technological and informational wise. They've expressed their hardships in editing the current website, and the effort they've had to go through to just access it (the student council page is linked to the school's home website, so they do not have to ability to freely make changes).

This is why I've decided to help them design a new template that is much easier to edit, and more aesthetically pleasing. The main functionality of this website is longevity; admin's don't have to spend as much time to add information.

Project Proposal

What do I plan on making

Create a functional Wordpress website, that allow's for admins to easily view and edit content. I also plan on making a contact form that allows customers to leave comments or questions for the admins to see and answer. The design will have to be minimalistic and and aesthetically pleasing.

Details of the ICT work you will use to solve the problem
Using programming languages that I know:
- HTML, CSS, Javascript
- PHP, mySQL (optional)
- JQuery
I will be mainly focus on the languages in order to build my website.

Initial Idea
  1. Create the main template for the website
  2. Connect it to Wordpress to check if it works
  3. Add PHP and make it so that it can be editable using Wordpress
    1. See if I can connect any Google Drive applications to the website template to make editing easier
  4. Add CSS, Jquery Animations to make it aesthetically
I will be doing some research on website templates to try and gain inspiration, and incorporate some of the aspects I like in my final website.

Evaluation and Reflection

Once I finished my project, I had to fill in a self-assessment sheet for my project evaluation. I went through each category and gave mysel...
